Devoted To Service
Let all that you do be done in love. Now, brothers and sisters, you
know that members of the household of Stephanas were the first converts
in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints;
I urge you to put yourselves at the service of such people, and of everyone
who works and toils with them. (1 Corinthians 16:14-16)
They devoted themselves to the service of the saints.
We are to devote ourselves to the service of the saints and we are to
put ourselves at the service of people who devote themselves to the saints.
From a biblical perspective, the church of Jesus Christ is a growing,
moving, changing organism. It is the Body of Christ. Members are continually
being grafted in, like branches into a vine. It is the community in which
babes in Christ are nurtured and strengthened. It is the fellowship where
some need spiritual milk, others are ready for spiritual meat.
Members are given various gifts and are called to diverse ministries
in order that the church of Christ with its individual members be built
up. Gifts of the Spirit are given for the purpose of serving the saints.
Therefore, we are to devote ourselves to the service of the saints.
Be devoted to the service of the saints and God will
use you. People will be nurtured. The fellowship will grow.
