Worthship = Giving the worth that is due. Giving God what God is worthy of.
God is worthy of our praise.
You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. (Revelation 4:11 / NRSV)
Our Lord and God is worthy of receiving from us the acknowledgement of what our Lord already has: glory and honor and power.
As we give to God what is due to God, our experience of God as provider, sustainer, healer and redeemer grows.
When we are giving God what is due God, we are getting lined up with God and with God's will. That is why worship always has to be in spirit and in truth.
Worship is the basis of the Christian life. Worship is the foundation upon which we are built up as Christians. From worship flows our knowledge and experience of God. From worship flows our knowledge of God's will and the power to do it.
Worship does not come naturally for sinners.
The world, the flesh and the devil seek the adoration of the self.
Therefore, we need Jesus, who led a life of worship, to lead us into worship.
True worship is a work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, connecting us up with God our creator and redeemer - in the way that is truly appropriate: With praise and adoration and surrender.
Describe what happens to us when we are truly worshiping God?
How can worship be a daily part of our lives?
How does worship through the week affect our worship on Sundays?
How has worshiping God made you able to recognize God's will?
Jesus, your lead a life of true worship. Lead us into worship.
